Williamsburg Addresses Silting

While recent attention has focused on flood remediation efforts in primarily rural areas of Sierra County, residents of the Village of Williamsburg have been eyeing the accumulation of debris from the past year’s storms, which has steadily filled two main flood control channels running through the small community. Of most concern is the “500” channel, which crosses under South Broadway just west of the Sierra County Fairgrounds and follows southward along West Val Verde Street through Williamsburg to the Rio Grande. Although state highway department workers did remove a significant amount of debris from the culvert under South Broadway in the not-too-distant past, subsequent rainstorm runoff…
