Police Warn Of Phone Scams

The T-or-C Police Department is asking the public to be aware of a high volume of telephone scams being made to residents in the area. In response to the rash of calls, the department has planned a free training session on May 8 from 10 to 11 a.m. at the T-or-C Housing Authority training room on Cedar Street. According to T-or-C Police Capt. James Morgan phone calls are being made to residents claiming to be from Publishers Clearing House or other prize winning companies indicating that the recipient has won thousands to millions of dollars in prizes, cars and more. Capt. Morgan stated the scammers are then saying that the person needs to send a money order to claim their prize or to have it delivered. “If they ever ask you to send money to get your prize, its likely a scam,” said Capt.
