State Cuts Impact T-or-C School Dist.

With the New Mexico State budget in a shambles, it was only a matter of time before our local schools felt the impact. In doling out cuts across all state government expenditures, Governor Susana Martinez has cut over $22 million dollars from the Public Education Department (PED) budget, both through direct cuts and line item vetoes. There has also been a 1.5 per cent cut in the School Equivalency Guarantee (SEG); which is the per-head amount each district gets from the state based on enrollment figures taken in the fall of each year.
