Caleb Young and Felix Apodaca traveled to Albuquerque to compete in two matches Dec. 21. The first was “International Air Rifle” which is 60 record shots from the standing position, followed by “3 Position Smallbore Rifle” with 20 record shots from each position–kneeling, prone and standing. Young’s score of 525 out of a possible 600 in Smallbore earned him a 2nd place medal in that event and 530 out of a possible 600 in Men’s International Air Rifle netted him 5th place. This was Apodaca’s first Jr. Olympic event and first Smallbore event where he shot a score of 470 and earned a 6th place finish. In International Air Rifle, his score of 517 earned him a spot at 8th place Young and Apodaca also earned the only two Western Region Army JROTC berths in the Army JROTC Service Championships to be held in Albuquerque in February.
