Candidate Call For Elections

On March 4, 2014, area voters will be asked to select candidates to fill a number of expiring posts for Sierra County’s three municipalities. The official candidate filing day for anyone interested in seeking one of the available positions is Tuesday, January 7, 2014. That will be the only day to register as a candidate for the March 4 election. Interested individuals must file their formal declaration of candidacy with the respective municipal clerks’ offices between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, January 7.

CITY OF TRUTH OR CONSEQUENCES Three positions on the Truth or Consequences City Commission will be up for grabs on March 4. Position One and Position Three will both need candidates to fulfil a four-year term, while candidates vying for the Position Four seat will be asked to fulfil a two-year term. Candidates must register in person with the city clerk’s office, located in the city’s administration building at 505 Sims. CITY OF ELEPHANT BUTTE Elephant Butte voters are being asked to fill two expiring at-large positions on the Elephant Butte City Council, as well as one Municipal Judge post. Candidates seeking any of those available positions must register with the city clerk’s office located in the administration building at 103 Water Street. VILLAGE OF WILLIAMSBURG Community voters will be asked to select a mayoral candidate, as well as individuals for the available Position One and Position Four seats on the municipality’s board of trustees. All three of the posts will ask candidates to fulfill a four-year term. Candidate registration details and other information about the upcoming March 4 election is available at the village hall, 309 Veater Street, or by contacting the village clerk at 894-6385.

VOTER INFORMATION •Absentee voting applications will be available at all of the municipal offices until 5 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014. Municipal clerks will accept completed ballots by mail or in-person from Tuesday, January 28, 2014 until 7 p.m. Election Day, March 4, 2014. •Early voting opportunities will be conducted at the offices of the municipal clerks. Early voting is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, February 12, 2014 and will conclude at 5 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014. •Anyone needing to register to vote in the March 4 municipal election must do so with the Sierra County Clerk no later than 5 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014.
